This challenge is compounded by the fact that one-third of the world’s population comprises smallholder farmers who operate subsistence-level farms, typically smaller than 5 hectares, and struggle to produce enough food for their families.
In contrast, farmers in G20 nations have access to technology that enables them to operate their farms as commercial enterprises, exceeding their family’s needs and supplying food to hundreds of people. This disparity underscores a significant divide that must be addressed.
Smallholder farmers, who form the backbone of agriculture in many regions, face considerable financial challenges. However, they also hold the key to addressing global food shortages, improving food safety, and enhancing food security.
